Wage increase in line with each province’s inflation rate

Bangkok - The minimum wage increment will be in line with each province’s inflation rate, according to Labour Ministry.

Mr. Chuthathawat Intarasuksri, Permament Secretary for Labour, revealed the committee agreed to apply 9-baht increase to the minimum wage nationwide.

The wage committee met today at the Labour Ministry to discuss the adjustment.

Labor Minister Uraiwan Thienthong said it was possible the adjustment would be 5% which is in line with the inflation rate.

The inflation rate remains at 6.2% now, the highest record in the 23-month round.

Previously, workers called for nine-baht wage increment nationwide on April 29.

The minimum wage is currently at 194 baht.

The highest adjustment of 11 baht is in Chiang Rai while the lowest rate in Sukhothai, Uttaradit and Chaiyaphum province.

9-baht increment is for Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakon, Nonthaburi, Saraburi, Ubon Ratcha Thani and Chiang Mai.

7-8-baht adjustment is for the remaining 63 provinces.

The wage hike will be effective since June 1 onwards.
