Bangkok - Finance Minister Surapong Suebwonglee yesterday assigned relating units to study the tax exemption for the debt instruments trading and report it to him within six weeks.

Mr. Suparat Kawatkul, Finance Permanent-Secretary, said tax and other measures needed to be changed so as to develop the capital market at its full strength.

The committee on Thai capital market development met on Wednesday morning to adjust the direction of the Thai capital market’s performance to be equivalent to that of overseas markets in order to enhance competitiveness.

The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Surapong and was attended by many qualified experts such as Bank of Thailand’s Governor Mrs. Tarisa Watanagase, chairman of SET board Mr. Pakorn Malakul Na Ayudhya, etc.

The issue of tax exemption for the debt instruments trading, redundant taxes and obstacles to investment in the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) were discussed.

Both short and long-term measures will be set to attain those goals.
