Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The department of mental health planned to improve the mental condition of children rather than punish children who committed crimes.

More than 46,000 children and youths committed crimes in 2008, and 14.06 percent were repeated criminals.

Most of the criminals were 15 years up. They did not study or work at all.

Crimes mostly involved thefts and addictive drugs. Most of the children wanted to get money for game playing.

Children’s problems stemmed from the fact that their parents were separated. This reflects that family situation is critical.

27 percent of problematic children were classified as nobody children because these children had no respect in themselves.

Children in this group were happy with their present rather than prepare themselves for the future.

Besides, they were under more pressure since their parents had high expectations on them.
