Women are less prominent than men in politics, business

Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The number of women taking leading positions was less than men in the political and business sectors, according to the National Statistical Office’s figures.

Although there were more female civil servants than male civil servants, fewer women took high-level positions in 2007.

Men mostly became police, prosecutors and judges whereas women were teachers and educational staff.

Public health ministry had the lowest number of high-rank female staff (3.03%) while the ministry of social development and human security had the highest number of high-rank female staff (61.54%).

73.69 percent of civil servants at the education ministry were women. However, only a small number of women were in the high level.

16.22 percent of women were appointed as Senators.

11.67 percent of women were selected to become MPs in 2007. Nevertheless, there were no female MPs in 44 provinces in the north, central region, south as well as northeast.

More women worked in the radio and television fields than in the newspaper field.
