Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Malaysian television reported that Thai officials involved in the massacre in Narathiwat province. However, this was turned down by the Thai side.
It is believed that the massacre was meant to extend the conflict between Thai Buddhists and Muslims in the area.
Rumor has it that some Thai officials wanted to take revenge of Muslims because two Thai Buddhist teachers were earlier killed.
On Monday evening, gunmen stormed into the mosque in Narathiwat, spraying the worshippers with bullets.
Eleven people were killed at the scene and several others were injured according to AFP.
Maj Gen Theerachai Nakvanich, commander of Narathiwat’s special unit, confirmed news that Thai officials involved in the massacre was groundless.
Narathiwat Governor Vinai Kuruvanphat told leaders of each community to be more careful about religious places to prevent any conflicts between different religious believers caused by ill-wishers.
