Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Thailand was selected to host the energy conference at the InterContinental Hotel for two days.

Thailand joins the International Energy Agency (IEA) to hold the event on May 18-19.

The energy meeting is to give advices for energy planning.

Thailand is the first non-IEA country chosen for hosting the first energy forum in ASEAN region.

It is one of the nations with large oil consumption apart from China and India.

The IEA will help prepare Thailand for the energy crisis to cope with fluctuating oil prices in the future.

Thailand currently depends on overseas sources of energy, importing up to 90 percent of oil.

Up to one million barrels per day of crude oil were imported. 700,000 barrels a day were for domestic use.

200,000-300,000 barrels per day of oil were exported.

Energy experts from countries such as Japan, Sweden, Britain, the Netherlands as well as the United States will join energy producers of the private sector to exchange their opinions.
