Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Ministry of National Resources and Environment (MNRE) has joined the Thai Retailers Association (TRA) to campaign for less plastic bags.
National Resources and Environment Minister Suwit Khunkitti said that the environmental problem has become more severe although worldwide campaigns have been launched to protect the earth for more than 40 years.
Environmental problem affect humans’ living and world’s temperature. Storms, pollution as well as global warming have been aggravated.
The ministry launches its campaign in each year. This year, anti-global warming and less use of plastic bags are emphasized.
The campaign has been launched since April 22 which is the Earth Day and will run until June 5 which is the World Environment Day.
Information will be gathered and submitted to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Nearly trillion plastic bags are currently used annually. About 700 tons of plastic bag are used in Thailand.
It is believed that global warming and garbage problem will be reduced if consumers use less plastic bags.
