Bangkok - The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) revealed the private sector confirmed the rice situation would improve this week or at the beginning of May.
The department met with the Thai Rice Packers Association, Thai Rice Millers Association and retailers on April 24.
The rice shortage and soaring rice price were discussed.
Retailers confirmed they would try to pay the rice packers within 30 days while the rice packers would gear up to deliver the products to retailers.
That is to make sure there would be sufficient rice to serve the consumers’ demand.
About 2.8 million packs of rice will be delivered to retailers nationwide during April-May.
The DIT will hold its Blue Flag Outlet Sale event to sell cheaper rice to people until May 4.
The price will be 20-40 baht cheaper than the market price. Products are in various brands like Hong Thong, Maboonkrong and Kaset. The event will run until May 4.
