Bangkok - Pork buyers complained they could not find such cheap pork as Commerce Minister Mingkwan Saengsuwan announced. The so-called pork price is available only at some retail shops and wet markets.
A source at Commerce Ministry said people complained pork vendors did not sell their pork at the price of 98 baht per kilogram. Such price is available only at participating big retail shops and wet markets.
Commerce Minister Mingkwan previously announced the so-called cheap pork price and vendors were expected to start such price yesterday for the first day.
In practice, vendors still sell pork at the price of 120 baht per kilogram.
“The Internal Trade Department tries to distort the market forces by setting such price. The price will be lower only if the slaughterhouses supply pork at the price of 70-80 baht per kilogram first,” said a pork vendor at Prachaniwes market.
Commerce Minister Mingkwan had a policy to adjust the price formula to solve the problem in the long run, according to a source at Commerce Ministry.
The pork price will remain at 98 baht for two months.
Defence Minister and Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej suggested people should turn to consume chicken to deal with the expensive pork price.
