Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – More aged people have been neglected aand the number of this group of people keeps rising every year, according to the ministry of social development and human security.

Thailand currently becomes the elder society.

The number of helpless elders accounted for 6.3 percent of the total population in 2002. However, the number rose to 7.7 percent in 2007.

7.2 million people of the 63.4-million population were aged people in the Thai society. The number accounted for 11.3 percent of the total population.

Five bills which were endorsed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva were resubmitted to the House on April 8.

These bills are to provide monthly allowance to the elders to help them cope with economic crisis.

In principle, five bills would be merged into one law and enforced.

Old age or senior citizen refers to people aged 60 up. The concept of being ‘old’ varies due to the context. In the Neolithic period, one will be old enough if he or she is just 26. In the Middle Age, it is normal to expect to die at 40.

Elderhood is the condition or quality of being old. Elder is a typical model for moving from adulthood to a state of being late in life.
