Bangkok - 7.1% or about 400,000 aged people lived alone in 2006, according to the National Statistical Office.

Mr. Sutha Chansaeng, Social Development and Human Security Minister, revealed Thai population tended to live longer and alone.

Thailand is the single family society and Thai people like to stay single more.

Aged people are not taken care of. Old people are neglected in rural areas more as descendants come to work in the city.

About 600,000 aged people are currently in Bangkok. The number tends to rise more and more.

Aged people play an important role in developing family, community and society.

7.7% of aged people were neglected in 2007.
