Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – More than 300 workers closed Ayutthaya City Hall to protest against the government after they had failed to received their gift cheques.
This group of workers registered to get the 2,000-baht cheques. However, they did not get what they were entitled to and decided to close the city hall.
The workers first rallied at the province’s social welfare office.
More than twenty volunteers and policemen were deployed to give convenience to those who contacted officials at the city hall.
The group revealed they registered for their gift cheques on the first day of the registration and expected to receive them today.
They urged Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to explain the procedures of receiving such cheque in detail.
The workers said they already spent some money to travel to get their cheques.
There are about 11,000 people who lost their jobs and are entitled to receive the cheques in Ayutthaya.
21,430 people has already got their 2,000-baht cheques today, and this cost about 42 million baht.
