Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Concerns over drought were expressed as summer replaced winter in Thailand. Lot of the southerners were affected by drought.

Six villages in Takbai District has experienced drought. 4,429 villagers from 1,365 households, especially in Ban Plak Chang, Ban Koak Muang, Ban Koak Yang and Ban Wat Mai were afflicted.

More than 1,000 rai of farmland were extremely in trouble due to water shortage and dried soil.

Normally, farmers will start farming in January and harvest the crops about early in March.

However, farmlands were flooded and damaged two times in January.

Unfortunately, farmers are currently facing drought which makes it difficult for farming to continue.

In Phuket, people in Thalang District faced the same problem. More than 400 households lack water.

Although villagers got help from the local officials, the water amount was not sufficient. As a result, a water truck from the highways department was added.

Phuket Administration Organization also had a plan to seek a source of untreated water and extend the water system to cover all areas in the long run.
