Bangkok - Mukdahan province will allocate the budget to build watergates along the Mekong River to cope with flood problem.

The critical level of water in the Mekong River remained at 12.50 metres, according to Mukdahan Governor Praneat Boonmee.

It was estimated about 30,000 rai of land would be damaged if the water level reached 13 metres.

Praneat revealed the water level was more than 13 metres in Mukdahan at the moment.

Fifty million baht of budget was set aside for helping the affected people in the province.

Watergates would be constructed in the long run to prevent floods. They would also be useful in terms of storing water to deal with drought.

Relating working units were already assigned to examine which areas were affected by floods.
