Somchai urges new prime minister to emphasize nation’s benefits

Bangkok (Manager Online) - Former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat told the reporters he would stop his political role for five years, calling the new premier to take the country’s sake into account.

Somchai invited the reporters to attend the unofficial New Year’s celebration at his residence.

129 monks throughout Bangkok joined the merit-making ceremony this morning. Somchai, his wife Yaowapa and their three children all dressed in white.

Somchai said he lived his life as usual and he always did his best, adding that there was no need to hold a position to benefit the country.

Asked about the current political situation, he said all parties should respect the rules so that the crisis would be solved.

He urged the new prime minister to perform the duty for the sake of the nation.

Somchai confirmed he was not worried about the Puathai Party and would not intervene in the party’s management.

He also said he would rethink about his political role after five years and would not enter monkhood like other politicians.

Somchai agreed that the new prime minister should be a good and competent person who is accepted by the society.
