Bangkok - The army spokesman denied the military was planning to stage a coup to end the political crisis while Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat planned to hold a press conference this evening.
Government spokesman Nattawut Saikua revealed after the cabinet meeting that the government had no plan to dismiss any high-rank military officers.
"I would like to inform all military personnel to carry out your duty as usual. Do not make any movement or be on stand-by. This is to stop the coup rumours," Nattawut Saikua said on national radio.
Army chief Gen Anupong yesterday held a press briefing on solution to the political turmoil, proposing the premier should resign while the PAD should stop their protests to bring peace back to the country.
PM Somchai reportedly planned to hold a press conference this evening.
It is highly possible that the government will rely on the emergency decree to deal with the PAD protests.
Somchai previously refused to step down or dissolve the parliament.
The pro-government group already announced to stop making any movement for fear the army would use it as an excuse to stage another coup.
