SEOUL (AFP) - South Korean airline officials are talking with Thai authorities about the proposed use of a military airport to bring back some 2,000 stranded tourists, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

Talks are under way between Thai authorities and flag carriers Korean Air and Asiana, a ministry spokesman told AFP.

The tourists are stuck in Thailand after anti-government protesters blockaded and shut down airports.

Yonhap news agency said the holidaymakers, many of them there on honeymoon, had been found lodgings by the airlines.

Korean Air and Asiana were forced to cancel a total of six flights back to South Korea on Wednesday and four more were cancelled on Thursday, it said.

The protesters shut down Bangkok's second airport of Don Mueang Thursday after overrunning the main Suvarnabhumi airport earlier this week.
