Bangkok - Thailand’s gas reserves will be able to serve the domestic demand for up to twenty years, according to the energy ministry.
Energy Minister Dr. Wannarat Charnnukul revealed the construction of PTT’s third gas pipeline in the Thai-Malaysian JDA was completed.
As a result, 400 million cubic feet per day of gas will be available for use.
100 million cubic feet per day of gas will be supplied to Chana power plant while 300 more million cubic feet to Rayong power plant.
Thailand’s domestic gas production yielded 2,835 million cubic feet per day while another 1,000 million cubic feet per day of gas were bought from Myanmar.
Therefore, the 3,835 million cubic feet per day of gas in the future will be sufficient to serve the country’s demand for up to twenty years.
However, Dr. Wannarat thought Thailand should seek new gas fields before the natural gas was used up.
Asian region and the Middle East would be emphasized in terms of gas exploration.
Nuclear energy is also seen as a new energy source. Whether the construction of the nuclear plant will take shape or not will be determined in the next three years.
