Bangkok - Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat said during the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) that Thailand was ready to coordinate with the BIMSTEC nations to develop mutual potential.

Attending the second BIMSTEC meeting in New Delhi, Somchai thanked India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inviting him to join the conference.

Somchai said Thailand was determined to coordinate with the BIMSTEC members.

The first BIMSTEC meeting took place in Bangkok four years ago. The value of trade and investment as well as tourism between the member nations increased after the meeting.

Thailand earlier surveyed resources in the Bay of Bengal to ensure there would be the use of marine resources more efficiently and sustainably in the future.

PM Somchai also said that Thailand was pleased to give knowledge about bird flu and traditional medicines for the poor and underprivileged.

Besides, Thailand also needs to protect itself from fluctuating world financial markets.
