Bangkok - The production standard was set for Yi Peng lanterns in Chiang Mai province to ensure safety and fun during the Yi Peng Festival.

Yi Peng is the Loy Krathong festival in the north.

The width and height of the lantern need to be less than 90 centimetres and 140 centimetres respectively.

Lanterns should be made of materials such as bamboo and paper only. Wires tightening fuel should be with less than 25 centrimetres of length, so that lanterns will not be left in the air.

Fuel made of tissue paper and wax should be less than one centimeter thick and ten centimeters long.

Lantern manufacturers need to affix the manufacturing sources on lanterns as well.

People were asked to float only standard lanterns into the air.

The proper time is after 9:30 pm since there will be no air traffic during that time.

Chiang Mai Airport needs to be informed in case there are several hundreds of floated lanterns.

Lantern floating is banned in Mae Hia Sub-district, Suthep Sub-district and Muang District.

However, most Chiang Mai people disagreed to the time set by officials.
