Bangkok - Thai milk producers joined to explain to people that Thai milk was 100% free of melamine.
Mrs. Pranee Yoosamran, corporate relations director of Friesland Foods Foremost (Thailand) Co, revealed China’s powdered milk scandal could affect the consumers’ confidence in Thailand.
However, she said that the company and some other milk producers bought raw milk from the domestic milk producers.
Pranee confirmed local raw milk was free of melamine and there was no incentive to put melamine in the raw milk.
There are about 1,600-1,700 tons per day of raw milk capacity which does not serve the country’s demand.
As a result, Thailand has to import 57,200 tons per year of skimmed milk powder.
The imported milk is free of melamine as it is from Australia, New Zealand, the United States and European countries.
The milk powder is processed to get sweetened condensed milk, condensed milk, creamer, yoghurt, canned coffee, sour cream and ice cream.
