Bangkok - Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat yesterday called the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) demonstrators seizing the Government House to leave before November when there would be a royal cremation.

The PAD supporters have rallied at the Government House for more than a month.

"I have tried my best to foster a better understanding and not to ruin Thailand's dignity. Other ASEAN leaders may question why the Thai government has no office so please help uphold our national dignity," he said.

The royal cremation of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana will take place in mid-November while the Asean summit will happen in December.

Thailand will host the ASEAN summit from December 15-18.

US President George W. Bush yesterday called to congratulate the premier on taking office, according to White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

The cabinet has temporarily set up its office at the Don Muang Airport.

PM Somchai met the statesman and chairman of the Privy Council Gen Prem Tinsulanonda yesterday evening, saying Gen Prem was merciful to give advices to him.
