Bangkok - The Supreme Court postponed its hearing on a corruption case against the former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. New arrest warrant was also issued to bring him to hear the verdict.

The verdict against Thaksin and his wife Pojaman was put off to October 21 as the judges thought both defendants would not appear in court following the summon warrant.

The couple was accused in the Ratchada land case worth more than 772 million baht.

"These defendants have to appear before the court. According to the legal process, the court has issued an arrest warrant to bring them back to listen to the verdict," chief judge Tonglor Chomngarm said.

Pojaman was said to use her husband’s political influence to buy a plot of prime land in Bangkok from a government unit.

Previously, the court gave its verdict that she was guilty of evading tax paying concerning the ShinCorp selling to Singapore’s Temasek Holdings.

Both Thaksin and Pojaman fled to the United Kingdom where they were ljoined by their son and daughters.

Thaksin claimed that all charges against him were politically motivated.
