Bangkok - The stock index rose over 705 points, 2.52% increase, after the news that the ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Pojaman Shinawatra fled to Britain.
Thaksin and Pojaman failed to appear before the Supreme Court this morning.
It was confirmed both of them already flew from China to the United Kingdom and would stay there for a while.
The stock index increased 17.42 points to remain at 708.12 at about 11:00 AM. The trading volumes were more than 8.5 billion baht.
Investors believed Thailand’s political situation would improve if Thaksin and Pojaman did not return to Thailand, according to analysts.
The couple was considered the cause of the political conflict.
The ousted prime minister said in a statement that he decided not to come back to Thailand as he was not sure about his safety.
He also said that the juridical proceeding was intervened by those who were against him.
