Bangkok - August’s tourism business in the northeast was as usual though the political rally still escalated, according to Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Khon Kaen office.

Nuan Sarnsorn, director of the TAT, Khon Kaen office, revealed the tourism situation was not affected by politics.

Hotel bookings accounted for 90% in Khon Kaen, Roi-et, Mahasarakam and Kalasin province.

The figures were close to that of the same period last year.

Each hotel got room and seminar room bookings in advance for the month of September.

Only 10% bookings were cancelled. But the cancellation had nothing to do with the political rally.

More than 80% of tourists in the northeast were Thai people. There were also some foreigners who worked or invested in the region. However, they were not panicked by the situation.

Mr. Nuan said the suspension of the train services affected only the people and goods transport, not the tourists.
