Bangkok - The World Durian Fair was held in Chanthaburi province on May 10-11 to promote Thai fruit among Thais and foreigners.
Wives of ambassadors and envoys from 23 countries participated in this fair.
Mr. Prachak Suwanpakdi, Chanthaburi Governor, said this was a good chance to market durian and other kinds of fruit in Chanburi.
Farmers sometimes can’t take their crops out of the gardens due to rainy season. They may also face the distribution problem.
The governor also added it was a good opportunity to publicize the province itself.
Durian is widely known in the Southeast Asia as the “King of Fruits”. It is distinctive for its large size, unique odor and thorn-covered husk.
But durian has only been known to the western world for about 600 years.
