Index plunges as Samak shows no sign of stepping down

Bangkok - The stock index continually dropped as Prime Minister Samak announced he would not resign or dissolve the parliament.

The index immediately fell at the opening of the market. It remained at 645.42 points this morning.

Trading volumes valued about one billion baht.

The stock index was expected to narrowly swing throughout the day according to KGI Securities analyst.

Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag yesterday submitted his resignation whereas the premier confirmed he would continue doing his job.

Samak’s announcement made the uncertain political situation went on and resulted in foreign selloffs.

Net selloff made by foreigners was up to 6.6 billion baht during the past two days.

It was expected the situation would become more intense. The premier’s aggressive air reflected the situation was still critical.
