Bangkok - The government will join hands with the Royal Thai Army to conserve Thailand’s forest.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej yesterday presided over the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Royal Thai Army.

The Environment Minister Anongwan Thepsuthin, Saksith Tridej, permanent secretary for environment, army chief Gen Anupong Paojinda, and more than 1,000 civil servants and forest conservation youths joined to witness the event.

The agreement is to serve their Majesties and the members of the royal family who concern about Thailand’s forest situation.

It is also to follow the premier’s policy against forest destroying and government’s land encroachments.

The forest protection and rehabilitation are focused as well.

That is to maintain the remaining forest and increase the country’s forest areas.

The government plans to build awareness of the forest protection so that the forest encroachments will be prevented more efficiently.
