Bangkok - Overseas Thais voting was a big issue for Election Commission (EC)’s meeting yesterday.
The EC proposed overseas Thais should be able to exercise their votes on the referendum.
The issue was raised because many Thais complained they were ignored in last year’s referendum.
Prapan Naikowit, member of the Election Commission, said the EC has considered 12 out of 42 articles of the new referendum.
The EC expects to hand the referendum act to the parliament next week.
Asked about the withdrawn motion, Prapan said it was the government and lower house of parliament who would decide on the issue.
The government should be able to consider the new referendum act within three months after the EC’s proposal.
