Bangkok - The People Power Party (PPP) plans to dissolve the parliament if the Supreme Court gives the red card to its party-list MP Yongyut Tiyapairat.
The dissolution is to allow its MPs to join a new political party before the new election.
The new party setup was already discussed by the PPP.
The Supreme Court today agreed to hear the election fraud case against Yongyut Tiyapairat and his yonger sister La-ong Tiyapairat, PPP’s Chiang Rai MPs.
Both Yongyut and his sister have to receive documents at the Supreme Court within seven days.
Previously, Mr. Thawin Intaraksa representing the EC submitted over-1,000-page documents to the Supreme Court on March 18.
Yongyut’s lawyer plans to have Election Commission’s member Mrs. Sodsri Sattayatham and Somchai Juengprasert appear as the defence witnesses.
Both the EC and Mr. Yongyut’s legal teams are confident of their evidence.
Yongyut will have to stop all his political roles from now on. He was the House Speaker before facing the election fraud charge.
Yongyut, 47, was instrumental in building Thaksin's support in rural areas, particularly among poor farmers whose support also helped propel the PPP to victory on December 23.
