Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The department of disease control expected there would be approximately 11,000 new HIV-infected patients.
The infection rate should be averagely 32 people per day.
As for the AIDS situation in Thailand, experts estimated that the number of AIDS patients in 2005 should be about 1.09 million. 18,000 people were new HIV-infected patients.
Two pregnant women were earlier found by Siriraj Hospital to have new AIDS strains: AG/D and AE/G.
It is expected that they might have foreign boyfriends or used to travel to the Africa continent.
There are more than twenty types of HIV strain worldwide.
It is said that the use of condom and taking anti-AIDS medicines will effectively prevent people from AIDS no matter what strain it is.
Hybrid strains were found in Thailand at the rate of only 0.5-1.8 percent. It is the first time the African strains were spotted here.
There is no need to separately treat patients following the different HIV strains, according to the department of disease control.
