Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 80 percent of European and Asian tourists supported a ban on smoking in hotel lobbies and 53.4 percent said the ban did not affect their decision to visit Thailand.
Prince of Songkhla University surveyed 5,550 foreign and Thai tourists at 25 three and four-star hotels.
Hotels were in Bangkok, Surat Thani, Phuket, Krabi and Songkhla province.
41 percent of the respondents were from Asia whereas 38 percent from Europe. 80.9 percent agreed to no smoking in hotel lobbies.
38.6 percent confirmed the ban would encourage them to re-visit Thailand more.
Nearly 90 percent of the tourists thought that smoking areas should be limited since most people were non-smokers.
Up to 92 percent of tourists wanted to stay in non-smoking rooms while 52.1 percent did not know that smoking was banned at Thai restaurants and food shops.
