Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 42,000 Thai people died of smoking in each year. The death rate was 4.7 persons per hour or 115 persons per day, according to the disease control department.

Smoking is the third killer apart from AIDS and liquor, according to the department.

Up to 82 percent said that televisions were the major source of information about the danger of smoking.

Other sources of information included texts on the cigarette case and publishing media.

May 31 is the World’s No Tobacco Day. Activities will be held at Chatuchak Park.

About one million Thais have died of smoking since 1986.

9.5 million people are smoking. If they do not stop smoking, one-third will be sick and die as well.
