Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 10.2 percent of Thai women began smoking at the age of less than 12 years and 40 percent smoked everyday.

Cigarette companies used new strategies to persuade female teenagers to smoke more, according to Action on Smoking and Health (ASH).

There were up to 500,000 female smokers in Thailand.

Cigarettes were found to shorten life and cause premature golden age, lung cancer as well as cervical cancer risk.

There were 10 million male smokers nationwide. The female/male smoker ratio was 1:20.

The death rate among male smokers was 35,390 per year whereas the rate among female smokers 5,793 per year.

A male smoker’s life is 14.7 years shorter while a female smoker’s life 12.6 years, according to the statistics.

Normally, drug addicts were less than 25 years old, and the target group was teenagers.

It is possible that female smokers will be the target group in the future.

Colorful look and smell are used to attract female smokers. Cigarette firms also tried to present the concept that smoking would make women slim.
