Bangkok - Thailand and Brazil were selected as the model countries for cigarette control survey by the World Health Organization (WHO).
WHO chose Thailand to pilot the cigarette control survey because the result of its compliance with the world tobacco law was satisfying.
More than eighty working units in the private and government sectors were surveyed.
There are two Thai laws dealing with cigarette.
The Tobacco Product Control Act and Non-Smokers’ Health Protection Act were both enforced in 1992.
Both acts are in line with world’s most cigarette laws.
It was suggested Thailand should take the law enforcement, ban on advertising and online tobacco selling seriously.
There have been 526 complaints about cigarette during January-September 2008, according to the public health ministry.
