Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – Thai merchants in Srisaket province have already stopped selling pork as Cambodian people turned to other kinds of food after the swine flu.
Normally, the morning market will be busy because Cambodian people will cross the border to buy consumer products.
However, Cambodians are afraid to buy pork to cook their dishes as they have learnt about the swine flu spreading from Mexico.
Cambodian people now turn to beef, chicken and fish instead.
The government was urged to closely examine the situation in Srisaket to prevent the outbreak of swine flu since lot of Thai and foreign tourists have travelled in this area.
Dr. Praj Boonyavongviroj, permanent secretary for public health, said the public health ministry has had strict measures to control the swine flu here.
He confirmed that no infection from human to human has been reported in Thailand or neighboring countries yet.
Praj also said that there were sufficient anti-virus medicines for the patients.
Swine influenza is caused by any viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae. Strains of swine influenza virus are classified as influenzavirus A (common), or influenzavirus C (rare).
Once the viruses become mutant, all influenzavirus A, B and C can be developed in humans.
