Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – 2,009 Thai people will join a mass exercise in the water to break the Guinness Book’s record on April 25.
The water exercise will take place at Pattaya beach as part of the “getting into water to downsize belly and deal with global warming” scheme.
In the past ten years, Thais’ obesity rose up to 7.5 times, especially in people aged 15 years up.
34 percent of Thai men had more than 90 centimeters of waistline whereas 58 percent of women had more than 80 centimeters of waistline.
The situation is quite worrying since obesity can lead to chronical diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
Every five-centimeter waistline means a Thai is at diabetes risk 3-5 times higher.
Obese people were found to worsen global warming as they want more energy: food, transportation and fuel, according to overseas researches.
Obesity is a condition which excessive body fat has accumulated to an extent that health can be negatively affected.
