Bangkok (ASTV Manager Online) – The government was urged to extend the allowance scheme to help aged people live their life amid the economic crisis.
Registration for pension project has started since February 26.
Lot of elder people came to register for the allowance although advance registration has been available since February 20.
The highest number of 22,242 aged people was in the Chatuchak District, according to the interior ministry’s survey in 2007.
Problems were that the elders did not bring some documents for registration and most of them were illiterate.
A couple named Mr. Sawat and Mrs. Ladda Thananatthapong said they were glad to receive the allowance from the government since they had no work and had to depend on their children who had uncertain amount of income.
Mr. Peeranat Varatpob, aged 52, who came with his 72-year-old mother said it was not a big amount of money, but it helped aged people have more income.
