Bangkok (Manager Online) - The Common Level system has been abolished since December 11, according to the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC).

Preecha Vatcharapai, secretary-general of the OCSC, revealed there are currently more than 400,000 officials nationwide.

Officials are categorized into four groups: management, operation, academic and general.

The public health ministry has the highest number of more than 180,000 officials. Its doctors and nurses will be in the academic group while permanent secretary and director general in the management group.

As for the interior ministry, governors and head of division will be in the management category whereas sheriffs in the operation category, and officials who perform duties in the general category.

Interior ministry previously topped the Office of the Ombudsman’s complaint list, followed by the Royal Thai Police and education ministry.

Preecha believed the bureaucratic reform would boost officials’ morale and lead to job advancements.

However, there are still some government units in which officials do not quite understand about the cancellation of the Common Level system.
