82 Thais killed by dengue fever

Bangkok - There were more than 60,000 dengue fever patients from January to October and 82 people were dead, according to public health ministry.

Dr. Praj Boonyawongviroj, permanent secretary of public health ministry, presided over the international dengue fever meeting.

The meeting took place on October 15-17.

There are 2,500 million people worldwide who are at dengue fever risk. This accounts for two-fifths of the world population.

Delegates from 52 countries worldwide attended this meeting.

The number of worldwide patients can be up to 50 million people per year.

The highest number was in the central region (32,968) followed by the north (16,809), northeast (9,784) and south (8,674) respectively.

Rising number of patients was seen in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, Phitsanulok, Ayutthaya, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chanthaburi and Lampun.
