Bangkok - Energy ministry and Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) plan to match industrial groups in a hope to reduce the transportation cost.

Energy minister Poonpirom Liptapanlop presided over a seminar on pilot project to cut energy cost by focusing on logistics management.

The transport routes will be extended to cover provinces nationwide.

The energy ministry plans to attract more industries such as iron and steel, aluminium, furniture and food to the business matching scheme.

Thailand is expected to save not less than ten million baht per year.

The pilot project has started since August 2007. It was successful with five participating industrial groups.

The project helped businesses save up to 30% of their logistics cost.

The energy consumption costs up to 22 million baht per year in the transport sector.

This accounts for 30% of the nation’s energy consumption. Up to 79% are the land transport.
