Industrial confidence index plunges after global financial crisis, gloomy politics

Bangkok - The industrial confidence index decreased in October because of the global financial crisis and political problem at home.

The index dropped from 81.1 in September to 75.5 in October, according to Santi Vilassakdanont, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).

Industrial confidence index was affected by the world’s financial crisis and escalating political problem.

It was estimated the index would remain at 82.4 in the next three months.

The declining index reflects more risk factors will affect the industrial entrepreneurs in the future.

Most entrepreneurs agreed that the government should urgently solve the political problem to build confidence among consumers and investors.

Industrial sector hoped that the 2009 budget would be allocated to boost the country’s economy.

The government was also urged to find sources of funds to boost entrepreneurs’ liquidity.
