Bangkok - Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday issued a statement to show his innocence and regret at the bribe incident.
It was previously reported a former politician’s lawyers gave a candy box with two million baht to the Supreme Court’s official.
The three-judge panel was set up to find out facts and found the case not groundless.
The ex-premier Thaksin’s chief lawyer Pichit Cheunban as well as two other assistants were sentenced to six-month imprisonment.
"Thaksin respects the court's decision and expresses his regret over the incident," his spokesman Phonthep Thepkanchana said.
The ruling puts three of his top lawyers in prison just weeks before the Supreme Court is expected to hear a case against Thaksin and his wife.
Thaksin and his wife each face up to 13 years in prison if found guilty in the Ratchada land case.
