Bangkok - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has joined hands with True Move to give away 500,000 Wi-Fi Internet cards which can be used for one year.

Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin launched the Green Bangkok Wi-Fi project at the Central World Plaza on Tuesday.

This is part of BMA’s drive to use the wireless technology to reduce the country’s energy consumption.

Bangkok will also be promoted as the city of future where it is pleasant to live in.

The free-of-charge service is available in ten business areas: Silom, Sathorn, Rama IV, Rama I, Sukhumvit, New Phetchaburi, Asoke, Charoenkrung, Rajadamnoennok, Benjasiri and Lumpini Park.

The so-call free Internet cards will be passed out at more than 50 BMA tourist service centers and leading shopping malls such as Central World Plaza, Siam Paragon, Emporium and The Mall.

Card registration can be made at www.truewifi.net and the service renewal has to be done every three month.

The cards will expire next June and the Internet speed is 64 kbps.
