Bangkok - University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) supports Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI)’s idea to raise the minimum wage to increase people’s purchasing power.
The wage increase is also to reduce pressure from inflation which reaches 5%.
About 8-9 baht increase is targeted and the increment should be gradually done twice.
The first wage adjustment will be in August and the second one in January of 2009.
Previously, Labour Minister Uraiwan Thienthong said that there would surely be the wage raising on May 1 to be the gift for all workers.
Not less than 1,000 workers also threatened to protest against the Government House if there was no clear answer about the increment.
May 1 is the May Day. It is synonymous with International’s Worker’s Day or Labour Day.
