Bangkok - University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) expects 96,181 million baht will be spent during the Songkran Festival, 4.5% rise from last year.
1,200 respondents were surveyed during March 31-April 4. The consumer’s spending structure slightly improved during this Songkran Festival.
42% would spend more while 10% would spend less and 45% would have no change in spending.
39% of the respondents tended to rely on their salaries as the source of money while 26% on bonuses and additional sources, and 34% on savings.
44% preferred to go to seas while 24% waterfalls and 19% mountains respectively.
The most three popular destinations were Chonburi, Rayong and Ayutthaya respectively.
80% concerned about accidents while 76% about hot weather and traffic.
53% thought this year’s Songkran atmosphere would be busier and 14% thought it would be less busy.
The number of Thais traveling abroad would rise from 14% last year to 21% this year.
