Bangkok - The Songkran Festival which is popular among Thais and foreigners will be celebrated at Khao San Road during April 12-15.
Mr. Surat Wongcharnsilp, chairman of the Khao San entrepreneur association, held a press briefing on “Swasdee Songkran Khao San 2008” at the beginning of April.
The event will be held under the concept of international and Thai culture in harmony.
The fete will be promoted to become the world festival, and Khao San Road will act as a gateway to Asia for worldwide tourists.
The event includes various kinds of show such as light and sound show, masked play in English, Songkran beauty queen pageant for foreign women and flora procession.
Mrs. Pornsiri Manoharn, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, said TAT targeted more than 4,100 million baht of cash to be spent in 13 provinces where events would be held to mark the water festival.
3.4 billion baht of spending is expected from Thais while 700 million baht from foreigners.
In Bangkok, Thais are about to spend 793 million baht while foreigners 194 million baht.
