Firemen needed a crane to winch a 26st woman from her home after she fell, according.
The woman suffered several fractures when she tripped in her bedroom but was unable to get up because of her weight.
Paramedics struggling for two hours to carry her downstairs before giving up and calling in the fire brigade, reports the Daily Mirror.
The fire crew strapped her to a stretcher but needed the crane to haul the woman through an upstairs window.
Five firemen struggled to pull ropes to winch her to safety as they took a further two hours to free her in Southport, Merseyside.
A passer-by said: "I was shocked as I'd never seen anything like it before.
"It was like some kind of military operation. There was a fire engine and a crowd outside. It was a bizarre spectacle."
