A macaque monkey hangs chained around the neck in a strenous position for one month or even more to force the animal to stand erect as handlers train them to perform at the slums of Prumpung district in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta.
Jakarta, Java, INDONESIA: In this photograph taken in November 2010 and released by Jakarta Animal Aid Network on November 16, 2012 a macaque monkey hangs chained around the neck and hands tied in a strenous position for one month or even more to force the animal to stand erect as handlers train them to perform at the slums of Prumpung district in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta. The slums of Prumpung was known as the notorious training ground for monkeys where in 2010 JAAN investigation revealed at least 1,000 monkeys captured from the wild are kept in cramped wooden cages and used by handlers to perform and beg for money in the streets.
