BANGKOK (AFP) - Thai police are hunting for three teenagers suspected of stabbing a German man to death on a popular resort island, police said Thursday.
Wolf Dieter Eugen Kebelheim, 66, died in hospital after he was attacked on Wednesday evening on the southern island of Phuket, where he lived with his Thai wife, said Lieutenant-Colonel Anukul Nooket.
Witnesses saw the German man quarrelling with three local teenagers on motorcycles after they cut in front of his pick-up truck, Anukul said. The youngsters were then seen stabbing him twice, in his torso and neck, he added.
While Thailand bills itself as the "Land of Smiles" for expats and tourists, incidents of foreigners falling prey to violence occur regularly.
